Reality over virality

It has become increasingly apparent that the days of reaching the masses through the Internet are rare. It is still possible for others to discover your work, but it will not be automatic. The filter bubble effect of the algorithm makes it nearly impossible to reach those who see things differently than you do – who vote differently, believe differently, and like different things. We may never infiltrate their filter bubbles. We may never infiltrate their algorithmically enhanced feed on any platform. And they may never infiltrate ours. It seems the only time we interact with one another's ideas is to put them down, which does not contribute toward human flourishing.

So what do we do? Instead of writing or creating for the masses, we need to think small. We need to write for those we hope to reach. We stay contained within our actual flesh and blood community.

We don’t optimize for the masses. We just align with what is aligned with Reality. Reality will sort it all out in the end.
